Black Excellence Plan
At Dora Moore, we are committed to supporting all students and believe the work of equity requires intentional planning and work. We have devised and are implementing our Black Excellence Plan to support some of our disproportionately impacted students.
Our vision for when we look at key data for 23-24 is…
- Black students are proportionally represented in our demographics in attendance, achievement, growth, and discipline.
- All Black students have and can name two trusted adults in the building they can go to in a time of need.
- All Black students report feeling physically and emotionally safe in school.
- All Black students see themselves in the curriculum, on the walls of the school, and represented in key classroom work.
Actions
- Consistent and predictable systems for ongoing, two way communication between school and home.
- Increased opportunities for ‘no strings attached’ attendance and involvement in community events
- Plan our community trips and engagement opportunities by focusing on presenting mental models that expand our Black students’ horizons and affinity connections–engaging intentionally with spaces/models/businesses that highlight Black people.
- Creation of a Black family advisory group to advise school leadership team of tangible ways to increase Black voices in school-based decisions.
- Specifically focusing on, talking about, and intentionally and thoughtfully investigating the Black student experience and the success of our Black students in planning, teaching, observations, coaching, and data analysis.
